Our Story
Established in 1889, Laskas Flowers has been around for over 120 years. My great grandfather, George immigrated to New York from Greece in 1882, and as a new immigrant in New York finding working along with learning the new language was not so easy. My grandfather was a Pharmacist in Greece however immigrants in New York City were not welcomed with open arms during this time so he decided to give a try in the floral business and he became a flower peddler. He was a flower peddler for about 5 years until he became successful enough to open the very first Laskas Flowers shop in Williamsburg Brooklyn in 1889. Soon after his three sons followed into the family business, each one opening their own location.
In 1945 my father, John Laskas, opened Laskas Flowers on Long Island in my hometown Long Beach, New York. My mother Virginia, and older sister Lisa soon joined my father in the family business. I soon followed at the age of 22 and have been in love with creating beautiful floral designs ever since. My mother always said that if we loved what we did for a living work wouldn't feel like work, and with over 30 years in the floral industry I can truly say that being a florist is one of my greatest joys. It is with great pride that I welcome you to my website, where you will find all of our work is 100% original, designed by myself and my daughter. We look forward to giving you the best in floral design and customer service. I couldn't be happier to celebrate 129 years of Laskas flowers, and even more proud to be able to say that I am a 4th generation florist.
